This course equips Massachusetts grades 6–12 mathematics educators with the instructional practices and curriculum knowledge to implement High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM) effectively at the secondary level. Using Smith and Stein's 5 Practices framework and the Massachusetts 2017 Mathematics Curriculum Framework, participants learn to plan for productive mathematical discourse, anticipate student thinking, and use HQIM to build deep conceptual understanding.

Apply Smith and Stein's 5 Practices framework to plan and facilitate productive mathematical discussion in grades 6–12 classrooms.
Use the Massachusetts Mathematics Curriculum Framework's standards for mathematical practice as an instructional planning lens.
Internalize HQIM lessons to deliver rigorous, coherent secondary mathematics instruction aligned to DESE's CURATE standards.
Design tasks that require higher-order thinking and support all learners, including multilingual learners and students with IEPs.
Analyze student work and use formative assessment data to identify misconceptions and strengthen tier 1 instruction.
